Reasons To Get A Rideon Lawnmower

Riding Lawn Mower – Good Reasons To Buy A Rideon Lawnmower

There are many benefits and advantages of a riding lawn mower when compared to smaller lawn mowers. Each is good for certain grass cutting tasks but with the riding lawn mower you do not have the problem of physically having to walk up and down mowing your grass. For some people who have a large yard the time involved as well as the physical effort of pushing a lawnmower can be very tiring.

With a riding lawn mower you are literally able to ride in it as you would with your car, and not have to worry about exerting yourself while you are cutting the grass.

If this sounds like your cup of tea and you would like to purchase a riding lawn mower, there are a few models in particular that you are going to want to consider.

Caster wheels and caster wheel towers have sealed bearings for long life and easy steering, and the offset front caster wheels help to improve inside corner trim. John Deere Riding Mower – X300 Select Series

This is another riding lawn mower offered by John Deere and which should be at the top of your list. This mower features a 3.5 US gallon fuel tank with a large 3-inch fill opening which is located on the left fender and which makes adding fuel easy and helps eliminate spillage.

These are all great options, but know that there are many more out there, so take your time and make sure that you choose a lawn mower that you are going to love and which is going to last. Also take into consideration the size of your lawn because this will have a huge effect on which mower you should buy.

How A Ride on Lawn Mower Works

What Is A Ride on Lawn Mower & How Does A Rideon Lawnmower Work

What are the essential parts that go into making a ride on lawn mower and what do you need to know about them? I started thinking about how I would describe a ride on lawn mower and cutting grass to an alien if ever I met one. Not that I am expecting to but I always think it is the best way to describe something as though you were talking to someone who knew nothing about the subject.

Well, I have to admit that explaining the actual cutting of the grass seems a bit unnecessary here, since few aliens will be reading, but I will try to explain the fundamental parts of a ride on lawnmower for anyone who is not too familiar with them.

The overall shape and appearance of a ride on lawn mower may be either like a small tractor with an engine at the front, called lawn tractors, or something like a large go-kart where the engine may be underneath or behind the driver.

We’ll start with the essential ingredient of any lawnmower, the cutting blade. The grass cutting blade is the sharp piece of metal, or sometimes plastic, that spins around and cuts the grass. This blade is enclosed under a cutting deck.

The cutting deck is a shaped piece of metal, or sometimes plastic, that protects you and anyone nearby from the spinning cutting blade. The grass cutting deck also has another purpose and that is to direct the flow of the cut grass to the outlet, which may be at the side or the rear, where the cut grass is discharged either onto the lawn or into a grass collector bag or box for convenient disposal.

The cutting blade under the cutting deck is powered by a gas engine that also drives the wheels, Yes, you do have to have some wheels. The gas engine may be positioned at the front, the middle or the rear of the riding mower but wherever it is positioned the power is directed to the cutting blade and the wheels.

We also need controls for the gas engine to control the speed of the spinning blade and they usually have a gearbox of some type so we can control the speed our riding mower separately from the speed of the lawn cutting blade. Another control we need is for the height we want to cut the grass and this may involve raising the whole grass cutting machine or just raising the cutting blade or deck.
The more sophisticated rideon lawn mowers cost more but usually have more comprehensive control systems.

Finally, we have the most important feature of a ride on lawn mower and that is the SEAT. It couldn’t be a rideon mower without a seat so this makes the place you park your rear the most important feature. Some of the cheaper riding mowers have a very basic plastic seat but the more you pay the better the seat is likely to be. If your rear end is important you might want to take a bit of time checking the ride on mower seat is well shaped and comfortable to sit on for as long as it takes to cut the grass in your yard.

So there we have it. A ride on mower is a few wheels, an engine, a cutting blade and a deck, a few controls and a seat. Oh, and you need a steering wheel too. Make sure if you buy a riding mower you have a means of steering it where you want to go or you could be cutting the grass from here to the other side of the country in one long straight line. I guess we should also include a brake of some sort, often a foot pedal, otherwise you might just end up in the sea.

How To Decide On The Right Rideon Lawnmower For You

The Right Rideon Lawnmower For You

There are several things to consider when buying a rideon lawnmower and price is often a major factor in deciding the size and type of rideon lawnmower you can afford. Rideons come in all shapes and sizes from the smaller backyard grasscutting tractor through to large rideon grasscut tractors that can mow a small field of grass in less time than it takes to make and drink a cup of coffee.

Choosing the right rideon lawn machine for you starts with what your requirements are and how long you are prepared to spend sat on the lawn tractor cutting grass. If you are happy to spend all day doing the job then a small tractor may be fine but if you have a large area of grass to cut you need to be realistic about the size of machine you need and how much such a machine costs.

The Right Size Rideon Lawn Care Tractor

You also need the ride-on lawnmower to be small and maneuverable enough to be able to get in and around all the garden features, flowerbeds and trees to cut the grass where you need to be able to get. Large garden tractors are very easy to get into smaller spaces but the larger machines can be just too big. You will also want some undercover storage for a rideon mower since you don’t want it sitting out in the rain all year round. So you need a storage area big enough to keep the grasscutter protected but also have access to all areas where you need to cut grass.

Remember to measure any gates you will have to go through to ensure you can get through. Comfort is an important factor if you are likely to be spending a lot of time sat on your garden tractor so make sure a comfortable seat is standard and if not see if there is an option for a better padded seat. Finally you should check that the grass you aim to cut will not be too big a task for the power of the machine you buy.

You can probably get away with cutting a small area of long grass with a smaller machine but if you have a lot of long grass you may need to get a more powerful lawn tractor or rideon mower. Check to see the HP of the machines you are considering and compare them with others of a similar type and design to make sure you do not buy an underpowered machine for cutting grass.
